(Un)Material Visions: Mediatization of (In)Tangible Commons Panel - SLAS 2020
Amsterdam, 17th and 18th of April, 2020
CfP - Panel Session
SLAS 2020 – Mind the gap: Strengthening Connections in Latin American Studies
CEDLA, University of Amsterdam
This panel session welcomes individual papers (15-20 minutes) in English or Spanish dealing with the representation of environment-related topics and issues (e.g., animal studies, ecocriticism, global warming, indigeneity, natural disasters, depletion of natural resources, pollution) in recent Latin America media outlets (e.g., cinema, digital platforms, television). The goal is to bring together papers that explore how intangible commons (e.g., films, cartoons, music videos) approach, depict, criticize, reflect and disseminate current concerns about the depletion of tangible commons (e.g., forests, mineral and water resources, reserves of fossil fuels).
For more information on the concept of commons, please consult this excellent position paper on the subject at http://www.cedla.uva.nl/CO_LAB/PDF/Position_Paper-LA%20Commons_Co_Lab.pdf or the Oxford Bibliographies entry at https://www.oxfordbibliographies.com/view/document/obo-9780199830060/obo-9780199830060-0116.xml.
The deadline for abstract submissions (200-250 words) is Friday 10th of October 2019. Please address proposals and/or any inquires to Fernando Gonzalez Rodriguez at firstname.lastname@example.org.
