The University of Massachusetts Amherst seeks a scholar at the rank of Associate Professor with a background in Polish literature, language, film, or cultural studies and a record of teaching and publication suitable for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor. The position will begin September 1, 2019.

Job Description

Based in the Comparative Literature program within the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures (www.umass.edu/complit), the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in cooperation with the University of Massachusetts Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies Program (SEEES) and the Interdepartmental Program in Film Studies. The University of Massachusetts is a member of the Five Colleges Consortium (along with Amherst College, Hampshire College, Mount Holyoke College, and Smith College), enabling potential collaborations with the Five College Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies Program, the Five College Film Council, and other consortial programs. The Amesbury endowment provides funding for programming and outreach initiatives, as well as research funds for the holder of the professorship.

Qualifications

Ph.D. in Polish literature, language, film, or cultural studies and excellence in and a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching, including Polish language courses. We are particularly interested in candidates with an outstanding record and potential for future achievement in research and a commitment to community outreach and engagement. Related scholarly interests are welcome, including East European or other continental languages, literatures, and cinemas. Applicants at the rank of Assistant Professor who can demonstrate an exceptional record of research and teaching in Polish and in Film and Media Studies will be considered.

Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
