Women in the work of Woody Allen

York, UK, 13. January 2018.

We would like to invite you to register for our upcoming conference at York St John.

Considering the current climate of the treatment of women in Hollywood we will be running a conference discussing, Men Writing Women: Women in the work of Woody Allen and beyond, on the 13th of January, 2018.

Following the Harvey Weinstein case, many members of Hollywood are being brought forward on charges of sexual harassment, including Woody Allen, who has once again appeared in the press in relation to historic charges of molestation.

It is my intention to bring together researchers to consider how women are represented in the broader sphere of Hollywood cinema, to consider the notion of the male perspective on writing women, and to explore the various approaches to relationships with and between women on screen. Through the lens of the work of Woody Allen, in exploring the problematic consideration of the autobiographical nature of filmmaking, this conference will explore the role and representation of women both in the work of Woody Allen and that of other filmmakers.

This study will be supported by the inclusion of two external keynote speakers, Professor Mock of Plymouth University, and Professor Lee, of De Montfort University.
