This workgroup aims at bringing together scholars interested in the film genre of spoofs. Spoofs are parodies, humorous films that mock other cinematic genres, conventions and characters. This genre is as much popular as it is underrepresented in scholarly works. We want to think about these films not only as mere demential expressions, but as a paradigm for dismantling normativity and some binary structures of knowledge production. As Judith Halberstam (2011) pointed out for animation, "being taken seriously means missing out the chance to be frivolous, promiscuos, and irrelevant. The desire to be taken seriously is precisely what compels people to follow the tried and true paths of knowledge production."
