End of NECS Potsdam 2016 and Cubitt Keynote

Dear friends and colleagues,

the NECS Potsdam 2016 conference is over and we were grateful for all your contributions and amazing presentations, workshops and keynotes in Potsdam, which made this anniversary conference a truly memorable one. As a last, belated farewell, you can now find Sean Cubitt’s excellent keynote “Against Connectivity” here.
See you next year in Paris!

Final Program is online

Dear friends and colleagues,

we are happy to announce: The final program is online now! Download the PDF to bring it with you on your gadget or browse through the individual pages for specific information online. You can find the program: here.

While you’re browsing the website, also make sure to stop at the Digital Publishers Forum: here. It is a project by students of the Filmuniversity Babelsberg Konrad Wolf to help you get an overview over the publisher attending and their take on “connectivity” and the future of publishing!

We look forward to welcoming you in Potsdam next week!

Keynote Speeches and Pre-conference Program

Dear friends and colleagues,

only about a month until this year’s NECS Potsdam 2016 conference! We look forward to welcoming you in Potsdam and would like to remind everyone who has yet to register for the conference (not NECS!) to do so here.

To give you a first impression of this year’s program in/between: cultures of connectivity, we’ve updated the “Program” and “Events” sections. You can now have a look at this year’s keynote speeches and speakers, events and the pre-conference workshop!

Preliminary Program now online

We are happy to announce that – along with the registration form – the preliminary program is now online. You can download the complete PDF file or browse through the schedule, floor plan and information online. We thank everyone for their excellent submissions, and we are happy to announce Sean Cubitt (Goldsmiths, University of London, UK) and Deb Verhoeven (Deakin University, Melbourne, Australia) as keynote speakers!

  • We would very much appreciate further volunteers for chairing panels. In this case, please send us a list of panels you would be interested in (ensuring that they do not overlap with your own presentation), and we will assign you to one of them.
  • The NECS workgroup-organizers are invited to name panels that they would like to sponsor. Workgroup slots will be available on July 28 and 30, 6 pm – 8pm. Please email us in order to reserve a room.
  • Please also let us know if you would like to present a recent or forthcoming publication in the Project Forum. Depending on demand, there will be one or two time slots for this, on July 28 and 30, 6 pm – 8 pm. Presentation time will depend on the number of participants.

The deadline for requesting scheduling changes is June 3, 2016. Regarding all other matters, including cancellation, please let us know as soon as possible. If you have any questions, feel free to email us at necs2016@zem-brandenburg.de.

Registration is now open

Dear friends and colleagues,

registration for the NECS 2016 Potsdam conference, including all connected events, is now open until 30th of June 2016. Please keep in mind, that individual registration is obligatory for everyone attending – even if your panel, proposal or workshop has been accepted.

There will be no conference fee. To attend the conference, you need to be a member of NECS and should have paid your annual membership fee by the registration deadline. You cannot pay or register on location!

You can find the registration form: here.

Book your Hotels

Dear friends and colleagues,
we hope that by now all of you have heard back from us (if not, please get in touch with conference manager Annemone Ligensa). We have updated the conference page regarding hotels and would strongly advise you to have your rooms booked by the end of March.

The official registration form for your participation and the conference newsletter will soon be available as well.

Have a lovely weekend, everyone!

Update: Proposal Reviewing Process

Dear friends and colleagues,

a short, arty hello from the Filmuniversität Babelsberg Konrad Wolf in sunny Potsdam, one of this year’s conference venues. To keep you up to date: we’re about to wrap up the reviewing process for all the interesting proposals you submitted. We can officially say by now, however, that we have an exciting conference with a great variety of topics on hand! We’ll be in touch with more information soon.

Come to Potsdam in 2016!

Dear members of NECS,

with Christmas and the year-end approaching, the local organisation team in Potsdam is happy to inform you about the first official details regarding the 2016 NECS conference, hosted by ZeM – Brandenburgisches Zentrum für Medienwissenschaften (Brandenburg Center for Media Studies), Potsdam, Germany.

The Call for Papers for both the conference and the Graduate Workshop went live this week and we have started to update this page. We will gradually add information in early 2016 and look forward to welcoming you all next summer to celebrate NECS’ 10th anniversary!
